The Palace On Wheels, a project between the Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism, initially started its operations on 26th January, 1982 and became completely operational from October 1982. A definite tribute to the royal tradition of the Indian Maharajas, this train travels down to the heart of India’s rich cultural and historical heritage, Rajasthan.

Voyaging on broad gauge, the Palace On Wheels derives its name and its royal background of the current 14 guest coaches from the historic chronicles of the personal carriages used by the Maharajas & the Viceroys. These 14 carriages have been an inspiration from lifestyle of different princely states which had been brought together and refurbished.

An exotic train which has amalgamated Rajasthan’s royal past with modern facilities has been known to have fulfilled the royalty dreams of many king-wannabe people who could be royals for their week of the journey.
