The Pondicherry Wellness & Yoga Escape is a 5-day programme of intentional slow travel, designed to restore balance — body, mind and spirit. Set in one of India's most spiritually charged towns, where the ashram tradition of Sri Aurobindo meets French colonial calm, this retreat blends daily yoga and pranayama sessions with Ayurvedic treatments, guided meditation, ashram visits and the deeply healing rhythm of walking Pondicherry's quiet streets at dawn.
This itinerary is designed for solo travellers, couples and groups seeking genuine rest — not a packed sightseeing schedule. Every day is structured around morning practice, a restorative experience mid-day, and gentle evenings by the sea or in the heritage town.
Route: Pondicherry Wellness Hotel → Auroville → Promenade → Serenity Beach → Ashram
Start each morning with an 80-minute hatha or vinyasa flow session beside the Bay of Bengal — guided by a certified instructor as the sun rises over the water.
Three personalised Ayurvedic therapy sessions — Abhyanga (warm oil massage), Shirodhara (forehead oil stream) and a herbal steam bath — tailored to your dosha by a qualified therapist.
Sit in silent meditation at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram's flower-covered samadhi — an experience of stillness that visitors describe as unlike anything encountered elsewhere in India.
Walk the restored tropical forest of Auroville with a resident guide — learn about the community's permaculture, land regeneration and sustainable living experiments across 200 acres.
Daily sattvic breakfast and one wellness lunch — organic, plant-based, locally sourced ingredients prepared according to Ayurvedic nutritional principles. No processed foods, no refined sugar.
Two dedicated pranayama and breathwork sessions, plus a Tibetan singing bowl sound healing circle on Day 4 — deeply restorative practices rooted in the Pondicherry ashram tradition.
Arrive at Pondicherry (by train from Chennai or road). Check in to your wellness retreat hotel in White Town — a restored colonial house with a garden courtyard, yoga shala and treatment rooms. Welcome consultation with your Ayurvedic practitioner to determine your dosha and personalise your treatment plan. Early evening: a gentle 45-minute restorative yoga and pranayama session to decompress from travel. Sattvic welcome dinner by candlelight in the courtyard — freshly prepared, plant-based and deeply nourishing.
5:45 AM wake-up. Sunrise walk to Promenade Beach for an 80-minute hatha yoga session with your instructor as dawn breaks over the Bay of Bengal. Return to the hotel for a sattvic breakfast. 10 AM: Abhyanga full-body warm oil massage (90 min) — one of Ayurveda's most deeply calming treatments. Afternoon: visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram for a guided meditation session at the samadhi (no photography inside; phones off). Evening: pranayama and breathwork circle with the group at the yoga shala.
Morning yoga — a vinyasa flow sequence focused on hip opening and spinal mobility, set in the garden shala. Sattvic breakfast. Transfer to Auroville for a guided eco-tour through the restored tropical forest with a resident guide — visit Sadhana Forest, the Auroville botanical garden and the Matrimandir viewpoint. Organic lunch at the Auroville Visitors' Centre café. Return to the hotel. 3 PM: Shirodhara treatment (warm medicated oil poured in a gentle stream onto the forehead, 60 min) — profoundly calming for the nervous system. Evening: free time for journalling or solo walking the heritage streets.
Sunrise yin yoga on Serenity Beach — a gentle, meditative style with long-held postures, accompanied only by the sound of the surf. Breakfast at a beachfront café. Mid-morning swim or unstructured rest on one of Pondicherry's cleanest beaches. 12 PM: Herbal steam bath and Udvartana (dry herbal powder exfoliation massage, 60 min) — the third Ayurvedic treatment of your stay. Afternoon: free time for solo exploration, café visits or journalling. 5 PM: Tibetan singing bowl sound healing circle (75 min) — instruments played around and upon the body to facilitate deep release and integration. Farewell sattvic dinner together at the hotel garden.
Last morning yoga — an integration session focused on gratitude and gentle movement, closing the week's practice with breath and intention-setting for life at home. Sattvic breakfast. Closing circle with your instructor and fellow retreat participants — share reflections and receive personalised home practice recommendations. Checkout and departure transfer to Pondicherry Junction or Puducherry bus stand. Optional: take home Ayurvedic herbal oils, teas and supplements from the hotel's apothecary shelf.

Jan 2026"The sound healing circle on the last evening was unexpectedly moving — several of us were in tears, in the best way. The instructor was exceptionally knowledgeable and adapted every session to the group's needs."
Dec 2025"Came as a solo traveller and left with friends for life. The sattvic food alone was worth the trip — the most nourishing meals I've had in years. The Auroville eco-tour opened my eyes to what sustainable living can look like."
